This is definitely not a picture I envisioned taking of my almost 10 month old:
I'm not really ready to talk about all the details, but I'll give you a quick run-down. Sunday morning she fell off the changing table. We were really worried that she would have a concussion so we spent most of the day checking for sings of a head injury. After several hours of a listening to a crying child, we finally realized it was her leg that was in pain and not her head.
Once we figured it out we were able to keep her leg still and she was happy again. Like this:
Monday morning we went to the doctor, and after a few hours of waiting, x-rays, and doctors, we came home with a broken femur (actually a hairline fracture) and a splint. OUCH.
It took about 2 seconds to figure out how to crawl and stand up with that thing. Keep in mind, it does not bend. AT. ALL.
After a few more hours of waiting and more doctors we came back home with this:
Full leg cast for 4 weeks. Which is actually better than the alternative. We were told originally it would be a half body cast (covering both legs and extending up above her belly button).
(Ignore the canned food in our living room. We were using it to play a game this morning. It is EXTREMELY hard to keep her off her leg, which we are trying to do as much as possible. I've gotten a little creative. If you have any ideas for activities great for a 10 month old that don't involve her legs, let me know.)
She is doing great, obviously (she can hardly stop smiling), but it sort of puts a damper on the learning to walk thing, which was coming any week now. A few days ago she started standing up on her own (without the help of furniture or other support). BUT- even though it will delay her physically a little, we are just grateful that it will not affect her long term and that it will heal rather quickly.

Oh she is so sweet. She totally looks just happy as ever. I love that babies just learn to walk even with casts. They are so adaptive! You are such great parents. I miss you guys :(
So I may have used the wrong word...maybe it's adaptable?
I'm so sorry Ellie! That must have been so hard to go though. Jack was in the hospital a little bit ago and it broke my heart to see him there. I hope Sophie recovers quickly!!
She is so sweet... she definitely has your disposition :) Give her a huge hug for me! She looks great in pink too!
I'm so glad she didn't have a concussion! That must have been heartbreaking for you to see her in pain. But now you know that even with a broken bone, your little Sophers is a truly happy little girl.
Oh Soph... you're the best. Thanks for letting Wes play with your legs today and for letting him eat your popcorn!
